Really good or cashing in on nostalgia?
My hopes aren’t high
They couldn’t get Leslie Nielsen to reprise his role (since he passed away 15 years ago), so they called the next closest name in the Hollywood phone book: Liam Neeson.
I want this to be the real reason behind this so bad
I want there to be at least one joke about this in the movie
To be honest I hadn’t noticed the different name and was very confused. That’s why I came to the comments, so thanks.
I am cautiously optimistic. I was worried it wouldn’t hit the same, but when I saw the camera pull out to every officer crying to a portrait, that’s dead on the comedic tone from the originals. I just hope it keeps it up.
I will also wait to see more before jumping on the hate wagon. I have a lot of faith in Akiva Schaffer’s comedic sensibilities and directing skills.
Liam Neeson? Funny/not funny.
Okay so he is the son, makes perfect sense.
Also, Leslie Nielsen was very good at looking serious and doing dead pan delivery, Liam Neeson is really good at that too.
I’ve been led to understand that Trix are, exclusively, for children. Is that correct?
I’ve contracted AIDS, from an African prostitute.
What’s next?
Full Metal Jacket remake featuring the Rock and Ryan Reynolds?
One Flu over the Cuckoo’s nest 2: it was all a dream
Sophie’s choice 3D: triple jeopardy
Every dead IP is just waiting to be plucked up by another greedy CEO waiting for another payday.
None of your examples are parody movies from companies with a long history of tons of sequels and dumb jokes. This is the fourth movie in a series. It’s basically been in development hell since the early 2000s. I’m not going to say this is quality; it’s not dead IP and it’s not a Kubrick. This is more like beating a dead horse (possibly) that resurrecting something.
If you wanted to make your point, something like Airplane 3 or Men in Tights 2 would have been more apt. AFAIK neither of those have been in development and they’re both from the same vein of late 20th century parody movies. The movies you mentioned would be good responses if a studio rebooted, say, Platoon as a 2000s war movie. Some movie collections like Naked Gun, Scary Movie, Police Academy, and National Lampoon are intended to stick around for a long time (even if they’re just getting progressively fucking worse).
While we are dumb enough to keep making them profitable they will keep doing it
Tbh I’m just enjoying trolling my mate with this movie because he can’t stand Liam Neeson
The OJ Simpson joke made me smile but otherwise, this looks terrible.
That OJ Simpson joke was brilliant! I am keeping an eye on this one
That was awful. I loved police squad. I liked naked gun.
This just looks like action squad. Read: boring.
+1
This should have been Alec Baldwin, Liam Neeson isn’t funny.
They said that about Leslie Nielsen at the time too.
As a huge fan of Police Squad/Naked Gun(s) I think Liam Neeson is a perfect fit to honour a legend.
I don’t think Neeson is the problem… I worry about the writing. It’s not going to be as silly or as funny as the original. Just another remake…
I’m a humourless grumpy old bastard that lost the lust for life a while ago. The trailer made me literally laugh out loud.
The only question, for me, is if they can keep the jokes coming for 90 minutes.
He’s is actually great at improv. Here’s a clip.
He’s relentless
that’s why I said that he’s not Funny. Ricky and Stephen can make that scene work with King Charles.
I think that’s why Neeson might be a success. Leslie Nielsen reacted to absurd situations with deadpan seriousness. He was an excellent clueless straight man.
Neeson himself doesn’t have to be very funny. As long as what’s happening around him is the right kind of humor, it could work.
Oh no…
