From the moment I saw superdog in the trailer, I was worried there would be no real substance behind the movie, just fan service and silliness. I guess I don’t have to be too worried, I’m sure they’ll reboot it with something more serious in 5 years or so.

Oof, 2.5 user rating on IMDb, 50 metascore. Haven’t seen a user rating that low in a long time.

The thing that really got me thinking on it was that he never even mentioned that Mark Ruffalo is a very literal allegory for Trump. I find the most common way of criticizing anti-Trump art is to avoid acknowledging its relation to him, even if any other criticism you can give is fairly superficial. The Boys and Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show come to mind as recent examples.

The movie was first and foremost a criticism of Trumpism and late-stage capitalism, the sci-fi setting was merely incidental. If you leave all that stuff out, yeah, of course it was a bland sci-fi movie, it was also about 10 minutes long!

I only have one question for you; who did you vote for?

Given that the movie has some references to rather specific news stories from the past year, yes, there are things not in the book in the movie, and those are some of the best parts.

I suppose a movie in which they spend half of the time running through sleeper cars wouldn’t have conveyed the same message about classism.

Time to fight the army of goon in an empty car that seemingly serves no purpose than to host a large violent brawl, now it’s time to walk through the sleeper car for all the goons you fought, now it’s time to walk through the kitchen car for the goons, not it’s time to walk through the laundry car for the goons. Oh look, it’s a rich person party car, what a weird thing to have at all in any context, are they aware the world has ended? Now time to go through the partier’s sleeper car, then the partier’s kitchen car, then the partier’s laundry car…

What do you mean you’ve seen this one? It’s brand new.
